Kay Vlahos wants to use what she has learned as a teacher, mother, business owner, and community volunteer to serve you, the people of Illinois, by working for an open, responsive, and responsible government that defends your lives and supports your schools and your environment, both natural and economic, so that you can find jobs, grow your businesses, and lead healthy lives.

Kay earned degrees from both the University of Minnesota (political science and social studies) and the University of Chicago (administration).  She began her career as a junior high teacher in Evergreen Park where she served both as a departmental and interdisciplinary team leader.  She also supervised student teachers and was on the executive committee of the local Illinois Federation of Teachers.

Together with her husband, Jim, Kay has raised three children, Matt, Mike, and Diane, in Downers Grove where they have lived for over thirty years.  During that time they owned and operated a retail business in Tinley Park.  Kay was the financial officer, doing the payroll, maintaining all the records, and filing the monthly returns and quarterly reports while still being active in many community groups.

Kay was the advancement chair of the local Boy Scout Troop, a council member in her parish, and has served various terms on the executive boards of her local League of Women Voters, Business and Professional Women, and American Association of University Women.

In her role as a part time hearing officer for Du Page County, Kay has listened to concerned taxpayers and local government officials, analyzed data, and used decision making and communication skills that will serve her well as she represents you, the people of the 42nd Representative District.  The people of Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Lisle, Wheaton, Villa Park, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, and Downers Grove will have her ear as she voices your values in state government and works to keep your communities strong and vibrant.
